FDA recall impacts numerous ice cream brands sold nationwide over listeria risk

TOPEKA (KSNT) - Federal health authorities are warning shoppers to check their freezers for several brands of recalled ice cream which could lead to serious illness.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) posted a recall notice on Monday, June 24 involving ice cream produced by Totally Cool, Inc. of Maryland. The company is recalling several brands of ice cream products as they may be contaminated with listeria monocytogenes.

Listeria can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections among young children, frail or older adults and those who have weakened immune systems. Healthy individuals may display symptoms of high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Listeria can also lead to miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

The FDA said the products involved in the recall were distributed nationally in retail locations and through direct delivery. Some of these products were sold through major retailers like Walmart. To date, no illnesses have been reported in connection to this recall.

Products included in the recall include ice cream sandwiches, pints of ice cream in numerous flavors, ice cream cakes and more. The full list can be found online by clicking here or looking through the document below:
