'Widespread network outage': NWS facing operational issues

KANSAS (KSNT) - The National Weather Service confirmed with 27 News that the organization is experiencing a 'widespread network outage'.

According to Director of Public Affairs Susan Buchanan, the outage began at 5:30 p.m. EDT on Monday, June 24. The outage is causing issues with NWS operations, causing sluggish websites, disruption of data flows and 'degradation of forecast and warning dissemination'.

"NWS systems engineers worked overnight to restore some functionality - including the flow of weather forecasts and warnings - and progress continues to be made this morning," Buchanan said. "Initial investigation into the root cause uncovered a network hardware configuration issue."
