Happy Tuesday Athletics Nation!

Yesterday minor league outfielder Seth Brown was named the PCL Player of the Week:

Brown was only just demoted to Triple-A after season-long struggles. Brownie as he’s affectionately known looked like a possible lefty slugger that could anchor a lineup a few years ago. Instead it’s been a rough couple of years for the 31-year old. Over the last two seasons he’s slashing .210/.275/.317 with 167/45 K/BB ratio to go along with 19 homers. This season has been even tougher and saw Brown demoted to Triple-A for the first time in years. Can’t feel good after spending four years with the big league team.

As tough as a demotion is, it could also offer something of a less-pressured environment where players can work on hitting mechanics, get a bit of a break from high-pressure MLB games, or just get your head right and get some success going. Well based off this first week for the Aviators it looks like Brown can still hit. The award for Player of the Week should help him realize he can hit and might have been pressing too hard for the Athletics. And he wins this award playing in just four games, even more impressive. The fantastic week probably won’t earn him a ticket back to Oakland just yet but if he keeps this up he’ll be back with the A’s before we know it.

Brown isn’t the only minor league outfielder crushing the ball lately in the A’s organization. Double-A outfielder Denzel Clarke was named to MLB Pipeline’s team of the week:

The #3 prospect for the A’s, Clarke went an amazing .400/.429/1.329 with a trio of bombs for the Rockhounds this past week. It’s a well-deserved honor that the 24-year old should be happy about. It’s always nice to be recognized.

It hasn’t been a great year for Clarke overall in Double-A as he’s slashing just .237/.293/.424 with 8 home runs and 8 steals. The strikeouts have been a big problem and he’s not been drawing as many walks as you’d like. Still, the former 4th-round pick is still fairly young and could wind up in Triple-A by the end of the year if he can keep this type of production up. The A’s are trying out other outfield prospects but there’s always room for more talent.

Have a wonderful rest of the day everyone!
