Long Bend Fire containment increases and evacuations are lowered Tuesday

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- The Long Bend Fire in Central Oregon continues to burn along the Deschutes River Tuesday after evacuation levels were lowered Monday afternoon.

According to the Wasco County Sheriff's Office, the fire still covers 1,024 acres; however, containment has now increased to 50%.

As of Monday afternoon, the evacuation level for all houses south of Highway 216 from Natural Pasture Road to Blue Rock Road is now at Level 1: "Get Ready" and the Deschutes River closure from Harpham Flat Campground to Maupin is now lifted.

The Long Bend Fire sits at just over 1000 acres on June 25, 2024 (WCSO)

Harpham Flat Campground and Wapinitia Campground are both open again.

On Tuesday, officials said fire crews will continue working to secure control lines and increase containment while also working to suppress fires along Wapinitia Creek.

Authorities are warning that there may be delays for anyone traveling on the Deschutes River and that boaters should avoid pulling over within the fire's perimeter.
