Jersey City police officer accused of forging docs to gain extra medical leave: prosecutor

Jersey City police officer Justin Rivera was arrested for forgery after submitting six altered or forged records to earn extra weeks of medical leave.

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (PIX11) -- A Jersey City police officer was accused of forgery within the police department for nearly a year, according to officials.

Justin Rivera, 31, is accused of submitting six altered or forged records that earned him over eight extra weeks of medical leave between March 2022 and January 2023, according to prosecutors. An investigation determined that the six documents were inauthentic, according to officials.

Rivera was arrested on Tuesday and is being charged with six counts of forgery and uttering forged documents, prosecutors announced.
