Meal program providing benefits for families while school is out

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) - A program offered through the state is helping provide meals for students and their families this summer.

The Franklin County Department of Job and Family Services announced that families with kids in school are eligible to receive money for groceries through the states new Summer EBT benefit program called Sun Bucks.

The program provides benefits to low-income families with children to buy groceries while school is out for the summer season. Families who are eligible will receive $120 per child, which can be used at a grocery store, farmers markets and other retailers.

According to the department website, the benefits will either be loaded to a household's Ohio Direction Card or a benefit card that will be sent in the mail to each child.
