Laura Loomer rebuked for 'obscene' homophobic joke aimed at Alan Cumming

Pro-Trump troll Laura Loomer was hit with a wave of backlash Tuesday when she targeted award-winning actor Alan Cumming with an off-color anti-gay comment on social media.

Loomer alerted her X followers that Cumming — whom she appeared not to know — would host President Joe Biden's upcoming LGBTQ+ gala in New York City on June 28.

"You can’t make this up, but Team Biden hired an Emcee for this gay event whose name is 'Alan Cumming,'" Loomer wrote.

"So Mr. Cumming will be the Emcee for Biden at his Gay Gala in New York City while President Trump will be having a campaign rally in Virginia."

Cumming has earned Emmys, Tonys, BAFTAs and Olivier awards for performances in film, television and theater.

He is the center of the iconic dance number in "Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion," portrays a fictionalized version of Chicago politician Rahm Emanuel in "The Good Wife" and is currently the host of a reality television show called "The Traitors."

Cumming also won a Tony in 1998 for his portrayal of the Emcee in Cabaret.

A self-described "#ProudIslamophobe, Loomer's contributions to the public sphere include a failed 2022 bid to unseat Florida Democrat Rep. Daniel Webster, a Washington Post profile in which a fellow Republican dubbed her the result of “what happens when you take a gadfly and inject it with that radioactive waste from Godzilla," and public appearances alongside white nationalists.

Her comment Tuesday spurred frustration from readers.

"OK, we can give Loomer a pass for not knowing that 'Alan Cumming as The Emcee' means he’s reprising his career-making role…," replied journalist David Bernstein, "but not knowing who he is at all, and thinking it’s an obscene gay gala joke name? Good stuff."

"Why are all you Fascists obsessed with gay folks?" @of_scholl wanted to know.

"You like to show people how ignorant you are, huh?" added @DaveInDC1. "If you don't know who an actor is, say that. Being an a-- and making fun of their name makes you sound stupid."
