Spence takes the mound looking for his fifth victory

The Oakland Athletics will play game two of the three-game series against the Los Angeles Angels at Angels Stadium in Anaheim tonight. Thanks to quite the scheduling quirk, this is the first series against the division rival Angels in the 2024 season. It wasn’t too long ago that the prospect of facing an Angels team with names like Trout, Ohtani and Pujols struck fear in the hearts of A’s fans, but with the three hurt, lost in free agency and retired, the Angels stand a mere two wins ahead of the struggling A’s in the American League West standings.

Mark Kotsay will send Mitch Spence to the mound tonight. The 26-year-old righty comes into the game with a 4-3 record and a 3.86 ERA in seven starts and eighteen overall appearances during the 2024 season. He’s had Quality Starts (QS) in two of his last three outings.

The Angels, under manager Ron Washington, will send Tyler Anderson to the mound. Anderson, a 34-year-old lefty, has a 6-7 record this year with a 2.48 ERA in fifteen starts.

Anderson will face this lineup tonight for Mark Kotsay’s Athletics:

Spence will face the following batting order for the Angels in Anaheim:
