The youngster was a ‘caring brother’ too, his family said (Picture: Dyfed-Powys Police)

A family say they are ‘distraught’ after they found their four-year-old boy dead in their garden.

Maldwyn ‘Gwern’ Evans was, to his loved ones, a ‘keen little farmer’ and ‘caring brother’.

But Maldwyn died at his home in Tynreithin, Tregaron, a town in west Wales, on June 20. His death is not being treated by police as suspicious.

His family have now paid tribute to him in a statement shared by the police, also releasing a photo of a smiling Maldwyn giving a thumbs-up inside a barn.

They said: ‘As a family, we are incredibly distraught by our tragic loss and he will be greatly missed by us and the entire community.

‘He was a loving son and a caring brother, who touched the hearts of so many. He lived his short life to the fullest and will be remembered for his captivating personality.

‘He was an extremely keen little farmer who had knowledge and ability beyond his years.

‘We would like to thank everyone for their support and kindness at this horrific time. It has meant so much to the whole family.

‘We would now like time to grieve and would ask to be given privacy in which to do so.’

The police said on Monday that they attended the home of Maldwyn, though had not named him at the time.

The force added: ‘The death is not being treated as suspicious and HM Coroner has been informed.

‘Our thoughts are with the family who are receiving support and they have asked for privacy during this difficult time.’
