Greek teams pursuing Kings' Sasha Vezenkov
Panathinaikos AKTOR Athens are going hot on the pursuit of a big man, as they have inquired about the availability of Sasha Vezenkov of the Sacramento Kings. In an interview he gave to Themis Sinanoglou for the Fos ton sport newspaper, Nikos Lotsos, PAO has asked if the 2022-23 EuroLeague MVP would be willing to return to the continent as a player of the Greens. “Panathinaikos contacted me by phone from time to time and has expressed its interest in the athlete. But I have told them that both Vezenkov and I want to see first if he continues in the NBA,” explained Lotsos. “As long as he does not continue there, we will first discuss with his last team in Europe, Olympiacos, giving them priority, and in the event that the discussions do not succeed, then we will probably seriously discuss with other teams as well,” the manager said. Lotsos also revealed that Olympiacos Piraeus are also interested in bringing back Vezenkov.

Vezenkov went on to reveal a disagreement about his playing time he had with Olympiacos’ strength and conditioning coach [Andreas Gkatzoulis] during the 2022-23 season. “Last season I was playing 30 minutes in the EuroLeague and sometimes 15 minutes in the Greek league. I asked why I had to play 15 minutes. He said, ‘Because that’s what I’m saying and also because the coach says so.’ Whether you’re playing or not, you have to find the balance. When you don’t play a lot you have to practice more, you have to figure out how to work. In the NBA everything has been very specific for years. As a guest at the EuroLeague Head Coaches Board Congress that is being held in Glyfada, Greece, Vezenkov referred to some interesting aspects of the player-coach relationship that he came to understand while overseas. “In terms of traveling, my first season in the NBA was crazy,” Sasha Vezenkov told the audience, per SPORT24’s Harris Stavrou. “You just go from one hotel to another and from there to the arena and the facilities. Then you play against another team and you have to read the scouting report. Then you play and travel again. Sean Cunningham: While Sasha Vezenkov remains frustrated with the lack of playing time in his first NBA season with the Sacramento Kings, I’m told by several sources that there is no truth to the report of his desire to leave the NBA. One source close to Vezenkov called the report “off base” and that he will honor his contract. I’ve also been told the Kings want to keep him, but there’s also a market for him.
