Emergency track work causes BART to close one of its commute lines

Emergency work early Wednesday on some of the tracks used by BART caused the transit system to close down one of their lines, officials said.

The red line that runs from the Richmond station to the San Francisco Airport and Millbrae was expected to be out of service all of Wednesday, according to a statement from the agency. According to BART, a track maintenance vehicle derailed overnight and was blocking one set of tracks near the 19th Street station in Oakland.

BART said that riders who normally use the red line should take a Berryessa-bound train and transfer to a train going to Millbrae from Antioch on the yellow line. Customers also can take a shuttle train between SFO and Millbrae.

Emergency track service between the MacArthur and 19th Street stations already was expected to cause a 20-minute delay in the Berryessa and SFO/Millbrae directions through Oakland.

The Oakland Airport Connector also was delayed by up to 20 minutes in both directions on Wednesday because of track maintenance there, officials said.
