Bethlehem man rescued after porch collapses on him

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A 40-year-old man was hospitalized after a porch collapsed on him in Bethlehem. Several crews responded to Roweland Avenue near Delaware Avenue on Tuesday to rescue the man.

On Tuesday, around 11:42 p.m., Albany County Sheriff's Office EMS units responded to a reported collapsed porch on Roweland Avenue. When EMS, Delmar firefighters, and Bethlehem Police arrived, they found a 40-year-old man trapped at the bottom of the debris.

Deputies say the man was sitting on his front porch when it collapsed without warning. Technical rescue assets responded along with resources from the Slingerlands Fire Department, Westmire Fire Department, and Colonie Village Fire Department.

Rescuers used high-pressure airbags and a rope system to lift concrete off of the victim and extricate him from the foundation within about an hour. The man was taken to Albany Medical Center where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
