Mark Rutte, the Prime Minister of the Netherlands, was announced on Wednesday by 32 NATO member countries as the next Secretary General of the organization.

Mark Rutte will replace Jens Stoltenberg starting from October 1st of this year, who has held this position for the past ten years.

In a post on Twitter, Jens Stoltenberg commented on the appointment of the new Secretary General, stating, “I know NATO will be in good hands.”

Ambassadors of the 32 NATO member countries confirmed this appointment during a session of the North Atlantic Council.

Mark Rutte swiftly gained the support of the most important member countries of the organization when he initially sought candidacy for the NATO Secretary General position.
