Jason Kelce Reveals How Much Weight He's Lost Since Retirement
Jason Kelce may have had his dreams of a second Super Bowl championship dashed when the Philadelphia Eagles experienced a heartbreaking end to the team's 2023 season earlier this year. But on the plus side, retirement is looking good for him, in more ways than one. In addition to a hit podcast and new gig with ESPN's Monday Night Countdown, the 36-year-old has already dropped a decent amount of weight.
In a new interview with GQ Sports, the interviewer pointed out to Kelce that one of the challenges facing offensive linemen is that the physique required for the position is not exactly what the father of three might prefer for playing with his children. When asked if he exited the NFL in a good place, health-wise, the former center admits that while he suffered some wear and tear to his body, but is still able to play with his kids and "fully enjoy life."
However, Kelce says he still hopes to drop some weight, as he weighed 295 pounds for the majority of his 13-year career with the Eagles.
"I look forward to losing some of those pounds. I don't want to get too small," he explained. "I think a lot of guys, especially offensive linemen, they lose too much weight, and then they look like bobbleheads because their neck gets so small, but their head stays the same size. So for me, I feel like for some reason, 250 to 260 feels like I'll be still big and be happy with the way I look without having a six-pack. But I’ll still be able to have that stature a little bit."
"Right now, I'm about 277. I'm almost 20 pounds down right now," Kelce continued. "It’s hard to imagine another nearly 20 pounds coming off, being honest with you. But my back already feels better. My knees already feel better. So another 20 pounds hopefully will make that much more adept at playing with my children."
Back in April, Kelce was given some weight loss advice from none other than Arnold Schwarzenegger himself on an episode of his New Heights podcast. At the time, the Cleveland native said that his goal was to lose two pounds per week but maintain his muscle mass.
"The most important thing is that you slowly decrease the body fat and increase the body muscles," Schwarzenegger told him. "So, you just switch. It doesn't have to just do with the weight—of course you want to reduce weight, because it's much healthier, you can get much faster, and much more energetic—but you want to slowly decrease the fat and increase the muscle mass."
"That is the key thing," the 76-year-old added. "So with the exercising and with the machines and the weights and all that stuff, you should he able to do that very easily. I know you have lifted some serious weight."
Given Kelce's noticeably slimmed down figure as of late, it seems as though the advice worked out well for him.
