'A new level of theft': Several cars broken into while parked at Zilker Park
AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Some people who were trying to enjoy a day in Zilker Park on Wednesday morning left with a horrible surprise.
Several cars in the parking lot by Barton Springs Pool were broken into. Vehicles could be seen with windows smashed in, and broken glass was all over the ground.
The alleged thieves who broke into those vehicles made off with some stolen credit cards. One resident, Wyatt Rodgers, KXAN spoke to said he used to work as a lifeguard at the pool at Barton Springs Pool and said he's never seen car break-ins escalate this much before.
"I've never come to the parking lot and seen three windshields and the confidence that someone would have to have to just keep breaking into cars. I mean, that's a new level of theft in the Barton Springs community that I have never seen," Rodgers said.
KXAN was told there were even more cars broken into in another area of the parking lot. We also reached out to the Austin Police Department for more information and will update this article once that information is received.
