Over 4,000 Afghan refugees return home from Iran and Pakistan

The Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation of Afghanistan has announced that more than 3,000 Afghan migrants have voluntarily and forcibly returned from Iran and over 1,000 others from Pakistan to the country.

The ministry stated in a message on its social media platform X that these migrants entered the country via the Spin Boldak border on Tuesday and Wednesday and through the Torghundi imaginary line and the Silk Bridge in Nimroz province.

According to the Border Affairs Office of Nimroz Province, 1,503 returnees, including families and single individuals, have been referred to the International Organization for Migration for food and non-food assistance.

The ministry’s newsletter reported that 116 families, totaling 642 individuals, returned forcibly from Pakistan.

Despite international reactions, the process of expelling Afghan migrants from Iran and Pakistan continues unabated.

Yesterday, Munir Akram, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, reiterated his emphasis on the “illegal” expulsion of migrants from his country and expressed hope that another 1.5 million registered Afghan migrants would also return to their homeland.

Earlier, the International Organization for Migration had stated that over half a million Afghan migrants had entered Afghanistan from Pakistan since last November.

According to the organization’s statistics, there are currently 4.5 million Afghan migrants in Iran and another 3.2 million in Pakistan.
