E. Jean Carroll's lawyer Roberta Kaplan splits from firm over mistreatment claims: report

The attorney who took on former President Donald Trump to secure millions in defamation and sex abuse damages for client E. Jean Carroll is leaving the law firm she founded, according to a new report.

Civil rights lawyer Roberta Kaplan is parting ways from Kaplan Hecker & Fink over clashes with parters about how she treated her colleagues, according to the New York Times.

"Her departure followed months of internal frustration over Ms. Kaplan’s conduct toward other lawyers, according to people familiar with the matter," the Times reports. "Those concerns led her colleagues to remove her from the firm’s management committee and precipitated her departure."

Kaplan represented Carroll in her New York City civil defamation trial that concluded with a $83.3 million ruling against Trump in January.

The attorney also helped the writer secure a $5 million victory in 2023 when a jury found Trump liable for defamation and sex abuse.
