Apartment fire leaves person dead in southeast Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – One person is dead after a fire broke out in a multi-unit apartment building in southeast Columbus.

According to Columbus Division of Fire Chief Geitter, a crew responded to a fire in one unit of a three-story, multi-unit building at the Columbus Park Apartments on the 2000 block of Winslow Drive in the Milbrook neighborhood.

The fire is now contained, Geitter said, but one person was found dead due to the fire. The ground-floor apartment's windows were broken and the outside wall of the building included a layer of soot from the blaze.

The cause remains under investigation. No other injuries have been reported.
