Are You Watching the Tall Couple Rom-Com on TikTok?
There’s a real-life rom-com happening on TikTok right now, and it’s still in the first act so you have plenty of time to catch up. Gabby Gonzalez and Tyler Bergantino, also known as “Tall Couple,” have been documenting their budding love story on the app, from their first meeting (a man-on-the-street interview, of course) to their first date as an official couple (VIP tickets to a Justin Timberlake concert). If your taste in rom-com is more Kate Hudson/Matthew McConaughey than Meg Ryan/Tom Hanks, I think you’re going to like these two. I’ll give you a little recap now, so you’re all caught up for act two.
Why are they called “Tall Couple”?
Well, babes, they’re both really tall. She’s six-foot-one (six-four in heels) and he’s six-foot-nine. Their first meeting was at the beginning of June in Miami when he interviewed her for a TikTok and opened with, “How tall are you?” From the start, they had an obvious chemistry rooted in the fact that they both have to duck through doorways.
That video went massively viral and now has over 34 millions views and over 20,000 comments, most of which are along the lines of “Did we just witness two people fall in love?”
But of course, there’s more to love than an electric chemistry and similarly long inseams. As it turned out, Gabby also interviews people on the street. At that point, it was kismet, and they already had their next piece of content planned. She was going to interview him.
You have to admit that these videos are really cute. Once they hit TikTok Couple first base (interviewing each other with a tiny microphone), they were ready for a real date. They went out and got coffee and didn’t even film it until the end, when they did a post-date check-in. They’re Star Wars fans!
How long did it take for them to make money off of this?
Not long at all, thanks to some marketing girlie who keeps her finger on the pulse. You see, Tyler lives in Greenville, South Carolina, and his Miami trip had to come to an end. Distance didn’t prove to be that much of an issue for these two and in fact led to them cashing their first couple’s check. Less than a week after the first video went live, these two had scored that coveted UPS Store spon.
But this is definitely real?
We don’t really have time to get into whether anything can be real when you know that millions of people are tuning in, but yes, they appear to be truly dating. Two weeks after their first meeting, she flew to South Carolina to see him. Then they went to Disney World together, where Tyler found Gabby’s first red flag (she wanted a red Sith lightsaber).
Next, they kept the party going by flying up to New York to get the full TikTok couple du jour treatment. They were sent VIP tickets to a Justin Timberlake concert, where they sang “Mirrors” to each other on the floor of MSG.
Who filmed that “candid” video of them singing? Don’t worry about it. The next day they attended the premiere of A Quiet Place: Day One. Why not! Again, shout out to the all the divas who work in marketing. Did I know that the Quiet Place prequel was coming out this week before these two went to the premiere? Honestly, no.
Are they official yet or what?
As of a couple days ago, yes. The way Tyler breaks it down in his video about it, it seems that they became official just before the J.T. concert.
That’s basically it for now. You’re all caught up before the real juicy part starts. Will they keep doing long distance? Will they document their first fight? Which brand will be flying them out for a blowout Fourth of July celebration? Is the Miami Heat already in contact with them to get them courtside for the home opener?
