Most Billie Eilish fans say ‘Birds of a Feather’ should be her Grammy submission
Often the question of which song an artist will submit for Grammy consideration is easy to answer. It’s usually their biggest, most ubiquitous hit. But what happens when you have multiple hits and a couple of them haven’t been released as singles (yet)? And what happens when one of those album tracks actually eclipses the lead single on the charts? We asked music fans which of Billie Eilish‘s three breakout songs from her latest album, “Hit Me Hard and Soft,” she should enter to Recording Academy voters: “Birds of a Feather,” “Chihiro” or “Lunch.” Scroll down for the complete results.
Fans voted for album track “Birds of a Feather” as Eilish’s strongest bet for nominations and wins. And it wasn’t even close. More than 55% of respondents picked that sentimental ballad. As of the Billboard chart dated June 29, it ranked at number-10 on the Hot 100, while lead single “Lunch” was number-18 and fellow album track “Chihiro” was number-36.
The order is the same on the Spotify streaming chart for the week of June 14 through June 20. “Birds of a Feather” ranks highest at number-three, followed by “Lunch” (number-12) and “Chihiro” (number-16). However, that was not their order in our poll results. “Chihiro” actually received about a quarter of votes, while “Lunch” trailed with a little under 13% of fans backing it. The remaining six-percent voted for “another track not mentioned.”
In our Grammy racetrack odds, which are calculated by combining the predictions of over 1,500 music fans (and counting), “Lunch” ranks fifth for both Record of the Year and Song of the Year, but as the lead single from Eilish’s album, it had a head start. “Birds of a Feather” has been rising, to number-15 so far in our Record of the Year predictions and number-14 in Song of the Year. How long before it eclipses “Lunch” there too?
