LASBCA OFFICERS CHARGED ON ENSURING COMPLIANCE WITH BUILDING REGULATIONS

Officers of the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) were today charged to enforce and compel compliance with building regulations by making sure that property owners and developers adhere strictly to the laid down rules and regulations guiding building constructions in Lagos State.

Permanent Secretary, Office of Urban Development, Engr. Shodeinde Nurudeen gave the charge during his working visit to LASBCA Headquarters at Oba Akinjobi Way, Ikeja, GRA.

Shodeinde, while admonishing officers of the Agency, tasked them to shun illegality by making sure that due diligence is followed to the latter by property owners/developers to safeguard lives and properties and generally reduce building collapse to the minimum in Lagos State.

“The main reason for the establishment of LASBCA is solely to ensure conformity with the State building codes”, he stated.

Shodeinde said, “The safety of lives and properties of the citizen is top priority of the State Government, therefore, the Building Codes of the State must be strictly adhered to by property owners and developers”.

Applauding the officers on their efforts in bringing sanity into the Built Environment of the State, he implored them to be conformity conscious as this will help in the actualization of LASBCA’s mandates.

The General Manager, LASBCA, Arc. Gbolahan Oki also urged the officers to ensure that illegal and non-conforming buildings across the State are fully identified and owners/developers are compelled to follow the due process of the State Building Laws, this, he said, will help to bring about compliance and boost legality.

Oki further reiterated LASBCA’s commitment to ridding the state of illegal and non-conforming buildings through thorough monitoring, identification and enforcement activities by its resilient, dedicated and proactive officers.

The meeting had in attendance Heads of various Departments/Units of the Agency, District Heads of both Inspectorate and Quality Control (I & Q.C) and Post Construction Audit (P.C.A.) of LASBCA.
