Echoes from the Islands

Three high profile and successful UK reggae icons are featured in a twenty minute film that takes the audience on a journey through their musical careers.

From starting out as the children of the Windrush generation, to taking their music to a global audience. The exhibition shares many fascinating stories from how Macka B performed to Nelson Mandela, Tippa Irie talks of his legendary performance on Top of The Pops and Sandra Cross discusses her No1 Reggae hits in this unique multi media exhibition.

The Exhibition entitled Echoes From The Islands is created by Liverpool based artists Whispered Tales The short documentary film is shown within a vintage Jamaican Sound system with the public listening to the films via head phones. The Exhibition launched at Africa Oye Festival on
Windrush Day, and will then visit three public libraries across Liverpool.

Liverpool Central Library:22nd July – 3rd September

School program
To coincide with the exhibition a workshop program is taking place at six primary schools delivered by Levi Tafari a legendary Dub poet and
Ashleigh Nugent a published writer.

The workshops will share the influence that the Windrush generation has had on the UK through creative writing.
