U.S. Marshals task force arrests three in Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) -- As most were just waking up this morning, the U.S. Marshals Service and Fugitive Apprehension Team were already knocking on doors.

The team works to bring in fugitives: on Thursday, those fugitives ranged from those wanted for shootings to those failing to register as sex offenders.

It takes time and research to track down violent offenders, and on Thursday, that time paid off.

While NBC4 was with the team Thursday morning there were three arrests; one was a man wanted in a double shooting.

The first warrant on the list was for felonious assault, which can be something like a shooting or stabbing.

In this case, the suspect, Markus Jones, had a warrant for allegedly shooting two people in early April on East Livingston Avenue.

"Most time we do a call out, knock and announce our authority and our ability and our intent, and then hope that they come out, and that's our focus," Supervisory Deputy U.S. Marshal with the Southern District of Ohio Charles Sanso said.

That scenario happened with the three arrests.

"They did a great job tracking these guys down, safely in custody with no issues," Sanso said.

The other warrants were for a rape charge, where the suspect was found by the team in a hotel near the Rickenbacker airport, and the other for failing to register as a sex offender.

"You got to be fluid, each day is different,” Sanso said. “You know, you might go out and attempt several warrants and get them all or you might go out the next day and get zero.”

When the team arrives at a location, the cars pull up, stake out the spot, knock, and then take the suspect into custody or search the house if the suspect won’t come outside.

"We need to stay motivated and understand this is a great importance to the public and to ourselves and just keep on pushing," Sanso said.

If you have any information about a wanted person, you can contact the U.S. Marshals Service.
