NBA DRAFT: The Toronto Raptors select Jamal Shead with the 45th pick

With the 45th Pick in the NBA Draft from Sacramento Kings, the Toronto Raptors select Jamal Shead out of the University of Houston.

In a pick the Toronto Raptors acquired mere hours ago from the Sacramento Kings, they selected Jamal Shead with the 45th pick in the NBA Draft.

This pick came in a trade that sent Jalen McDaniels to Sacramento in exchange for Davion Mitchell, Sasha Vezenkov, and the pick.

Shead is a 6-foot-1 guard out of the University of Houston, playing all four seasons of his college eligibility before declaring. In his senior season he averaged 12.9 points and 6.3 assists per game while 30.9% from three and 40.9% from the field.

He was an All-American in 2024, and also won the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year award, as well as the Big-12 Player of the Year award.

Shead comes to Toronto as a small guard that packs a lot of defensive punch, can facilitate, and apparently has a high basketball IQ. He also is the most winningest college player in the draft, as he won 120 of the 138 games he played in college for Houston.

This is currently the Raptors’ last pick in the 2024 NBA Draft.
