According to Portuguese newspaper Record, Benfica chief Rui Pedro Braz met with Greenwood and his dad last month.
Getafe would to retain Greenwood’s services for another loan spell, but cannot afford United’s £40m asking price.
Despite a long list of potential suitors, Greenwood favours a move to Marseille over his other options at this stage.
A move there would potentially see him play under former Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi.
De Zerbi has agreed a deal in principle with Marseille, according to The Guardian.
Jadon Sancho is another out of favour attacker who is for sale, with the Old Trafford side putting a £40m price tag on him.
Greenwood hasn’t played for the Red Devils since January 2022 and was sent on loan after he had charges of attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault dropped.
Greenwood denied all allegations against him.
