Star of hit noughties drama shocks fans with hunky appearance in gripping new BBC series
Irish actor Colin Morgan is no stranger to the screen, both TV and film, and he’s set to take on a starring role in gripping new BBC drama Dead and Buried.
Yet this isn’t the first time that BBC viewers have come across the actor, but he’s looking completely different from the fresh faced actor they might remember.
In 2008 he took on the role of magician Merlin in the BBC series, which ran until 2012.
Now in 2024, the 38-year-old actor takes on one of the lead roles in BBC drama Dead and Buried where he plays Michael McAllister opposite Annabel Scholey.
The four part series will air in Autumn on BBC One and on BBC iPlayer, and is set to be a psychological thriller that keeps viewers hooked.
The plot follows Cathy, portrayed by Annabel, who has a chance encounter with Michael, played by Colin.
The BBC outline for the series describes it as: “Outside a supermarket with her young son, Cathy (Annabel Scholey) encounters Michael (Colin Morgan) – the man convicted of the brutal murder of her brother, 20 years earlier.
“Ignoring the advice of her best friend, Cathy takes to social media, uncovering the successful career and family life Michael has forged for himself since his early release from prison, while she grieved for her brother.
“Re-traumatised by her past, Cathy instigates a clandestine relationship with the man she despises, embarking on a campaign of harassment and deceit.
“As Cathy’s obsession grows, dark fantasies of revenge and reality blur as she sets out on a campaign of psychological warfare to destroy Michael’s life.”
The series features a strong cast including Kerri Quinn, Waj Ali, Owen Roe, Niamh Walsh, Micheal Hanna and Blue Lights star Joanne Crawford.
The series was filmed in Northern Ireland earlier this year, which is not only where Colin is from but he’s filmed in the region many times.
In 2014 he took on the role of DS Tom Anderson opposite Gillian Anderson and Jamie Dornan for serial killer thriller The Fall.
He also appeared in Kenneth Branagh’s 2021 biopic Belfast, taking on the role of Billy Clanton and again appearing with Jamie Dornan.
