A statement on social media read: “The Pearl Jam concert scheduled for Saturday, June 29 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London has regrettably been cancelled due to illness in the band.

“This  decision was the last thing we wanted to have to make, especially as we know so many of you made travel plans based on the tour schedule. There was simply no other option based on our current health and also having to avoid further damage.

“We couldn’t be more disappointed to not play one of our favourite cities this tour. Despite best efforts, rescheduling was not possible at this time due to existing schedule commitments.

“We are deeply grateful for your support and sincerely apologise to the incredible Pearl Jam community for the inconvenience and disappointment.

“Tickets will be refunded at point of purchase.”

They previously played at Manchester’s Co-op Live on Tuesday night, but Eddie Vedder was unwell.

The frontman is said to have told the crowd he was struggling with his voice during the gig.

The Seattle grunge veterans earlier this month slashed ticket prices for the London show.

Uptake on tickets for their shows has been unusually sluggish for the popular rock group due to eye-watering prices.

Premium standing tickets were initially £249.45, much to the astonishment of some, while even seats at the back of the stadium were £125.

Tickets front of pitch standing are currently available through a re-sale for £155.25.

The cheapest prices at the group’s Manchester gig at the new Co-op Live venue were £92.50, while general admission on the floor was £166.

In recent weeks TV ads have been deployed to encourage fans to attend the London show and promoter LiveNation dropped ticket prices to £49.20, plus booking fee, in a last ditch efforts to fill the seats.

Now fans have been left devastated by the last minute cancellation, with one person commenting: “What a gut punch. Was going to be the highlight of the year.”

A second said: “Gutted, just boarding train to London.”

And a third added: “Twice this has happened in London now! £280 down on non refundable train and hotels too.”
