‘Strangely amazing’ people yell after spotting ‘council house mansion’ with secret summer feature, up for sale for £625K
A SIX-FIGURE house has gone viral on Reddit for it’s time-warp interior design.
The property, which is located in Hull Quay, Great Yarmouth is on the market for £625,000 It was reduced in March from £650,000.
The house is in Great Yarmouth[/caption] People said the house looked “claustrophobic”[/caption] People couldn’t believe the house had a pool[/caption]Sharing a picture and link to the home in the subreddit SpottedonRightmove, a user name freakofspade titled their post “Would you look at this house and anticipate that it may have an indoor swimming pool?”
The house boasts a large kitchen/diner, a big living room, and a huge indoor swimming pool.
The unassuming house harbours four bedrooms and two bathrooms.
Potential buyers need a deposit of £62,500 to secure the property.
The description for the property listing reads: “The property has been extended and individually designed.
“[It has] a large flowing living space comprising of an entrance porch serving the reception hall with a feature vaulted ceiling and galleried landing.
“[It has a] fantastic living room, sitting room, study/bar.”
The large 1970s-style red brick fireplace runs across one wall of the living room, and potential buyers might want to update the decoration as the carpet is currently green, and walls a pale pink.
But it boasts massive windows that look directly out at the stunning view.
The kitchen/breakfast room is an ideal space for a large family, and there is an adjacent utility room.
Also on the ground floor is a dedicated cloakroom, two smaller bedrooms and an adjacent bathroom.
“On the first floor a galleried landing leads to two further double bedrooms and a family bathroom,” the online description continues.
“Attached to the side of the property is an indoor swimming pool with shower and plant room.”
The swimming pool is currently empty but is large enough to host summer parties or used for regular exercise.
Outside there is a sweeping driveway which leads to the double-size garage with electric door and front parking for several cars.
“The rear garden is low maintenance and faces a westerly direction and provides an ideal outdoor entertaining space adjoining the main house and swimming pool.
“The property also benefits from gas central heating and double glazed windows.”
The house would make an ideal renovation project – whether it is kept as one house or transformed into two – as the current square foot of the property is 3362.
There are two bathrooms, with this one’s sink having it’s own room[/caption]People in the Reddit thread couldn’t believe what they were seeing, with one person saying the interiors “hurt my brain”.
One person said: “It looks like a council house, mansion and the inside of a caravan all at the same time and it hurts my brain.”
Another penned: “This is such a strangely amazing house? Are they rich or not? I really can’t tell.
“This house is throwing me into every decade. I’m so confused.”
There are four bedrooms in the house[/caption]A third wrote: “I love this house!
“Someone spent a load of money on it in the 70s and 80s and, with the exception of the modern-ish bathroom, the TV room and the grey carpets they just left it at that.
“The dark orange bathroom suite with sunken bath is exquisite (apart from the carpet).
The view from one of the bedroom windows[/caption]“It feels really homely and the seafront location is lovely – not least because you can’t see the rest of Yarmouth.”
However, others weren’t so keen on the design, or the pictures displayed on Rightmove.
Many questioned how “cluttered” it was and wanted to know why there was a mattress in the swimming pool and another leaning up against the wall.
“If you were going to sell a house with an indoor pool, I feel like it would be worth the effort to haul the old mattress out of it before the photos were taken,” one said.
A second said: ” I don’t love it because it’s so cluttered and claustrophobic looking.
“I feel like I can smell the dust from here. However… I think there’s potential for a sympathetic 80s glow-up.”
“F*** me, it’s horrible,” said a third.
Important tips to remember when buying a property
IN the current property market, houses can be snapped up quickly, so make sure you know what you're looking for - and if it's within your budget.
Rebecca Miller, Fabulous’ Associate Editor, has spent the last six months house-hunting, and it’s been exhausting! She shares her tips to bagging the perfect property.
1. Write a list of must-haves
“Work out what you really want from a property, what’s important to you and your lifestyle, and anything that’s a complete no-no.
“For example, I needed a bathroom upstairs. I’m not in university anymore, I don’t want to be walking through the kitchen in my towel to take a shower. I also wanted a large garden – gardening is passion of mine and to have my own space, was important.
“But maybe you need off-road parking, good local schools, or amenities to be around the corner? Whatever it is, write a list – and stick to it!”
2. Check your finances and set a budget
“There’s no point looking at houses you can’t afford – it only leads to disappointment and wasted time.
“Sit down with a mortgage advisor – an initial chat is always free – and work out what your house budget is going to be, and how much your comfortable with paying for a mortgage every month.
“From my experience of house-hunting, the asking price was just the start and bidding wars were common amongst desperate potential buyers.
“So when viewing houses, visit ones that are below budget to allow for the possibility of increasing your offer. And if the seller wants more than your budget – be prepared to walk away. No house is worth getting into difficult debt for.”
3. Plan for extra costs
“Property purchasing is always more expensive than you initially think, as little extras along the way add up.
“These include, but are not limited to: solicitors, mortgage advisor, ID checks, estate agent fees (if you have a property to sell), searches, and surveys – and most importantly – stamp duty, of which the latter needs to pay within 14 days of completion.
“You might have enough savings for a deposit and solicitor fees – but have you accounted for everything else? My biggest tip – you can never have enough savings when buying a property.”
