My hair was coming out in huge clumps – I was making a mistake, switching to a $16 tool made a significant difference

EXCESSIVE hair loss stopped for one woman when she corrected the common mistake that she was making every wash day.

She said her hair was falling out in “huge clumps” before she invested in a new tool.

She spoke candidly about her struggles with shedding locks on Reddit’s Natural Hair forum.

TROUBLED TRESSES

She said using the wrong type of hair brush to detangle her hair when it was wet was causing extreme damage.

“Every wash day I have a ridiculous amount of shedding hair,” she said, writing under the handle Sanguine-sisi.

“I’m talking huge clumps of hair. I never thought it was because of the Denman, I just assumed my hair must naturally shed a lot.

“I always use the Denman when my hair is soaking wet and with lots of product, but I still had so much hair come out every time I brushed.”

Denman brushes have smooth pins that are suitable for all hair types but are especially popular with curls.

However, the Redditor blamed the tool for her shedding and said she found a tool better suited to the texture of her locks.

“Today, I used the Tangle Teezer for the first time to detangle and I had SIGNIFICANTLY less shedding than ever before,” she said.

“I did more research on the Denman and found out I’ve been using it wrong this whole time.

“It’s meant to be used as a styling brush to clump already detangled curls together.

“Just wanted to share with everyone in case anyone else has been experiencing a lot of breakage and also uses their Denman as a detangler brush.”

HAIR HERO

Hundreds of people upvoted the post and many said they were already using Tangle Teezers on their hair.

One person with 4c textured hair said she also loves Tangle Teezer.

“But honestly, the best detangle brush is your own fingers,” she said.

“Always detangle with fingers before attempting to use a comb or detangle brush.”

“The tangle teaser and unbrush brush saved my hair,” another said.

“I do whatever it takes to detangle this thing,” a third chimed in.

“I use my hands to detangle and then go through it again with the Denman brush. Time for me to invest in a Tangle Teezer I guess lol.”

Tangle Teezer The Ultimate Detangler, $15.99, Ulta Beauty

BUDGET BUY

Tangle Teezer The Ultimate Detangler has a 4.6-star rating on Ulta Beauty.

According to the brand, it has been designed for “painless” detangling and less breakage.

They recommend using it on wet hair to spread products such as shampoo or conditioner from root to tip.

The $15.99 tool is available in five different colors.

The rave reviews for Tangle Teezer come after YouTuber Katherine Sewing revealed to The U.S. Sun a tip that helped to grow her locks thigh-length.

She said dry finger detangling with oils rather than water helps with length retention.

She learned about being “gentle” with hair while helping to care for her adopted sister’s 4C-type hair.

Sewing said she uses a boar bristle brush to dry cleanse her locks.
