Manzardo, Martínez and Valera Go Yard, Guardians Affiliates go 4-1 Thursday

Columbus Clippers 8, Omaha Storm Chasers 3

Box Score · Clippers improve to 33-43

The Clippers won by way of the longball Thursday. Columbus was able to score seven of their eight runs from two three-run bombs hit by Kyle Manzardo and George Valera, and a solo shot from Angel Martínez. The remaining run was scored off a sac fly hit by Christian Cairo.

On the other side of the ball, Gavin Williams chalked another rehab start in Columbus Thursday. He went four innings, K’ing six batters while giving up one earned run on three hits and two walks.

Eli Morgan also had a rehab appearance, going two-thirds of an innings, allowing a run on a double that scored a runner he walked earlier in the inning.

Hunter Stanley earned the W for the game, throwing two innings and fanning two batters. Andrew Walters threw for the 9th, and it was a stress-free outing after he gave up a leadoff walk. He went on to strike the next three batters out, promptly shutting the door.

Akron RubberDucks 4, Altoona Curve 6

Dayan Frias was able to drive in all four runs for the Ducks on Thursday. He did so by delivering a pair of two-run singles in the 7th and 9th innings. He was one of three players to have a two-hit game Thursday, along with Micael Ramirez and Alexfri Planez.

Tommy Mace had a rough start. He gave up five earned runs on nine hits and two walks. He did manage to fan four in his 4.2 innings of work, however.

Alaska Abney was able to log a scoreless 1.1 innings of work on the other hand. He didn’t allow a single baserunner and struck out two. Ross Carver managed to limit damage, only giving up a solo homer. He K’ed three in his two innings of work.

Lake County Captains 13, Great Lakes Loons 3

The Captains got contributions from almost everyone in the lineup Thursday. Jorge Burgos did a lot of the damage, going yard while driving in three runs and being driven in an extra time. He went 3-4 with a walk in what was a huge game for him on a big hot stretch. Jonah Advincula also had a bomb of his own, his third of the year.

Rorik Maltrud made his High-A debut Thursday, and his start was smooth. Apart from the four walks he administered, he fanned five and gave up four hits in five 1-run innings. Have a debut, Rorik!

Matt Jahchec gave up two earned runs in three innings of relief. He walked three and gave up two more hits, as he matched Maltrud’s K count of five. Allan Hernandez shut the door therein with no traffic on the basepaths.

Lynchburg Hillcats 5, Carolina Mudcats 4

Box Score · Hillcats improve to 41-31

Esteban Gonzalez was the man, going three for five and logging three ribbies. Tommy Hawke also had an RBI of his own as he went two for five.

Jackson Humphries threw 3.1 innings strong Thursday, allowing five baserunners and an earned run.

Robert Wegielnik gave up three more runs in his 1.2 innings of work. Thankfully, Deretd Parra was ice cold for the remaining four innings. He didn’t give up a single run, allowing four baserunners in the process. He K’ed three and earned the save.

ACL Guardians 11, ACL Rangers 12

Box Score · ACL Guardians improve to 17-23

David Leon went yard in grand fashion. He hit a grand slam that put the ACL Guards up 5-1 at the time. Then, Welbyn Francisca hit a bomb of his own, this time a two-run homer. Leon went 2-2 and Francisca 3-5.

Dylan DeLucia gave up only three hits and struck two out in his three-inning start. Jogly Garcia and Juan Zapata had rough outings, giving up the ACL Rangers’ six runs. Javier Santos and Tommy Ventimiglia , on the other hand, let a five-run lead slip from their fingers in the 9th as the ACL Rangers rallied and walked off the Guards on a three-run double.
