Listen to Jose Iglesias’s “OMG,” the Anthem of the 2024 Mets
The seismic shift of the energy around the 2024 Mets started in late May, seemingly with a team meeting where leadership seemed to deflate any stress around actually winning. The pressure was off, and since that May 29 meeting, they’re 17-6 and have climbed their way back to .500.
A lot has fueled that success. Their stars have played like stars. Grimace, of course. But the team just seems to love being around each other. Outside of winning, what the one thing that’s bonded them? Jose Iglesias’s music career.
We learned during spring that Iglesias released and performed music under the alias Candelita, and his team embraced it. His newest song—”OMG”—has become their rallying cry. It’s melodic, easy to sing along to, and the corresponding dance move they’ve turned into a home run celebration let’s everyone in the dugout and stands participate. The vibes culminated Thursday evening at the Mets Foundation’s Home Runs and Highballs event, where half the team joined Iglesias on stage to dance to the song.
“OMG” so far has been exclusive to the Citi Field PA system after a homer—and a good TikTok promotion—but the Mets have also hit the most home runs in the National League since May 30. We’ve heard it a lot. But now, you can listen across all streaming platforms. Iglesias will also release a music video at 4 p.m.
Listen below, and let the good energy keep rolling.
