According to Football Insider, Tottenham Hotspur are ready to secure the services of Monaco star Youssouf Fofana if the midfielder’s talks with AC Milan collapse.

Spurs have been linked with Yousseff Fofana

Fofana has been one of the most consistent midfielders in Ligue 1 over the past few years and the 25-year-old has come on as a substitute in two of France’s three group matches at the Euros this summer.

His future has been the subject of much speculation over recent weeks, with Corriere Torino (via Sport Witness) previously reporting that Tottenham are one of several clubs eyeing a move for the player.

The report said that since the Les Blues star has just a year left to run on his contract with Monaco, the Ligue 1 club would be willing to sell him for around €20m-€30m (£17m-£25.3m) this summer.

Milan leading the race for Yousseff Fofana

Football Insider have now said that Spurs have registered their interest in Fofana, with the Frenchman seen by Ange Postecoglou’s men as someone who can add strength and experience to their midfield.

However, the Lilywhites are currently trailing Milan in the race, with the Rossoneri currently locked in talks with Monaco over a deal.

The publication adds that Spurs are now waiting in the background and watching proceedings, with the Premier League side ready to pounce on Fofana if the Milan deal collapses.

One wonders why Tottenham would be waiting in the background instead of going on the offensive for Fofana, given that they could quite easily financially outmuscle Milan.

Perhaps that is a sign that the Monaco star is not at the top of Postecoglou’s wishlist.
