Truck stolen while couple was sleeping in attached camper

While they slept someone had stolen the truck attached to the camper, taking the car, camper and couple along for the ride.

DENVER (KDVR) — A couple sleeping in a camper in Boulder, Colorado, were awakened after they felt the vehicle rolling. They realized that while they slept, someone had stolen the truck attached to the camper, taking the car, camper and couple along for the ride.

The June night started with a man, a woman and their dog sleeping in a friend's camper parked outside her apartment, police said. In the middle of the night, someone broke into the pickup truck attached to the camper and drove away.

They stayed quiet and called for help.

"The initial call was tearful and confused," Boulder police said on X.

Around 3 a.m., police spotted the car and officers tried to pull the trunk over with the couple inside. However, after the officers turned on the sirens, police said the truck driver sped up and turned down a dead-end street.

Officers arrested the driver, who already had three arrests for motor vehicle theft in three jurisdictions.

The driver is now facing charges of second-degree motor vehicle theft, two counts of reckless endangerment, vehicular eluding, carrying a concealed knife and failure to appear in court on a previous theft case, according to Boulder police.

Police said the man, the woman and their pup were safe, although extremely shaken up.
