Altamont man accused of animal abandonment

An Altamont man was arrested on Thursday following an animal abandonment investigation. William Labarr, 33, faces multiple charges.

ALTAMONT, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- An Altamont man was arrested on Thursday following an animal abandonment investigation. William Labarr, 33, faces multiple charges.

According to the Albany County Sheriff's Office, Labarr is accused of abandoning three blue heeler dogs outside an animal grooming business in Knox. Deputies say a resident reported hearing the dogs barking in the early morning hours in a large crate covered by a mattress pad secured by an extension cord.

Deputies say the crate was found in an unsanitary condition with feces inside. The dogs were taken to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society where the dogs were evaluated and confirmed neglected.

Charges:

  • Abandonment of animals (three counts)
  • Failure to provide proper sustenance/cruelty to animals

Labarr was issued an appearance ticket. He's scheduled for arraignment in Knox Town Court on Wednesday.
