NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) -- Mayor Eric Adams and Council Speaker Adrienne Adams announced that New York City libraries funding has been fully restored in the upcoming 2025 fiscal year budget.
The $58.3 million budget restoration should allow the three city public library systems to resume weeklong service, including Sunday service.
The proposed budget cuts pushed branches in Manhattan, Queens, and Brooklyn to only offer service five days a week. The cuts also impacted spending on materials and programs, according to library leaders.
Additionally, $53 million in funding for cultural institutions was also fully restored in the upcoming fiscal year 2025 budget, Mayor Adams said.
The City Council is expected to pass the budget over the weekend, to meet the June 30 deadline.
