Dråpa

Vatn Architecture

Dråpa is a minimalist residence located in Oslo, Norway, designed by Vatn Architecture. The name of the project, inspired by an ancient form of verse traditionally used to praise nobility, reflects the noble architectural ambition behind this undertaking. The extension reinterprets the modernist aesthetic by incorporating curvilinear forms alongside the original rectangular structure. This design choice is informed by the architectural styles prevalent during the era when the existing house was constructed, which often blended curved and angular shapes. The designers view the curved design as consistent with the original character of the home and suggest it is reminiscent of how extensions were approached during that period. Spanning three levels, the extension includes three bedrooms, a spacious area combining the living room and kitchen, and a third-floor terrace that offers panoramic views of Oslo and its archipelago.
