‘RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars Untucked’ season 6 episode 8 recap: ‘Make Your Own Kind of Rusic’

“RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars” continued its 9th season on Friday, June 28 with the eighth episode featuring returning queens from seasons past. In the sister series “Untucked,” now in its 6th “All Stars” season, the queens throw back a cocktail and dish the dirt backstage on the latest challenge. This week the queens spent most of their time in the Werk Room as they put their fingers to the sewing machine in a design challenge with looks inspired by songs from the extensive catalogue of RuPaul Charles. Prior to the judges announcing the official top two performers of the week that would earn the coveted Beautiful Benefactress Badges, the queens gathered backstage to discuss the week and their chances at winning.

Based on the judges’ critiques from the “Make Your Own Kind of Rusic” runway category, Plastique Tiara, Nina West, and Gottmik were feeling especially confident about their chances at placing in the top this week. Everyone thought that Nina received great critiques, especially from the guest judge Jeremy Scott. Still, Nina thought that there was tough competition because a lot of people had really strong looks and got great critiques as well. The queens were also concerned with Ru’s declaration that this would be the last week to use the Ruby Snippers because they envisioned that it could mean a twist was on its way like, for instance, eliminations.

In an “Untucked Exclusive,” we saw a deeper dive conversation between Ru and Shannel during the Werk Room check-in where Shannel opened up about being disowned by her father at the age of 25 and having her dreams shot down constantly by her stepmother. As an only child and with her mom’s passing, Shannel told the girls that she’s had to work so hard to achieve her goals and that it leaves little room “to have fun.” She was getting to a place in her life now where she could finally bring fun back in to her art and career.

Later, Jeremy joined the queens to bestow compliments on all the queens for “giving it today” on the runway. Jeremy recalled with Roxxxy Andrews that she helped create “one of the best live performances” he’s seen during “All Stars 2” when he first judged the show. Vanessa Vanjie Mateo said that being on the show is such a special experience and that, like Roxxxy, she’d come back whenever they ask because of how much it means to them being there. Then, Gottmik received a video message from home and the queens prepared for the possibility of lip syncing and all the math it would take to keep the girls at the top with the most badges from continuing to extend their lead. Little did they know that both Plastique and Roxxxy would reach even further ahead of them by placing in the top and getting their fourth badges as the frontrunners.
