Nicole Kidman Reflects on Daughters' Red Carpet Debut & The One Aspect She Loved Most
Nicole Kidman is reminiscing on a very special family event that took place earlier this year — such a special occasion, according to the Hollywood icon, that it has her doing something she doesn’t usually do.
During a conversation with People ahead of the premiere of her new rom-com, A Family Affair, Kidman reflected on the April 2024 American Film Institute Life Achievement Award gala, of which she was the guest of honor. The occasion marked the red carpet debut of her teenage daughters, Sunday Rose, 15, and Faith Margaret, 13. Alongside them were her husband, Keith Urban, and several of her extended family members including her sister Antonia and her niece Sybella, 17.
“It was a really warm night,” Kidman told the outlet. “My sister came, and my girls. That was the first time that they’d ever been on a red carpet, and Keith was there.” The Practical Magic star continued, “I had all my nieces and nephews as well. The whole family was there, and that’s what I loved. It also made me look back, which is not something I often do,” she confessed.
During the ceremony, the Oscar winner was toasted by stars including Meryl Streep, Naomi Watts, Mike Myers, and A Family Affair co-star Zac Efron. Urban also made a touching speech in honor of his wife, telling the assembled guests, “Her and I both come from tight four-member family units as well, so we try to do the same for our girls — keeping a tight little unit wherever we are. We’ll make homes of film locations all over the world,” Urban shared.
Kidman shared a further glimpse of their family dynamic during her conversation with People. Speaking about her daughters, the Big Little Lies alum said, “They’re very supportive, but they’re also like, ‘Okay, calm down.'” The actress added, “But I do think it’s important not to have sycophants [around you]. And it’s not also seeking out really horrible criticism … We’re all a work in progress, as they say,” she mused.
Kidman and Urban met in 2005 and tied the knot a year later. In 2008, the couple announced they were expecting their first child, and two years after Sunday’s arrival, they welcomed Faith. Kidman also shares two kids with ex-husband Tom Cruise, daughter Bella, 31, and son Connor, 29.
