Report: Tottenham have ‘made contacts’ to sign Juventus defender
Spurs, who have a recent tendency to sign Juventus players, are reportedly making moves towards signing a 26-year-old Juve centre-back.
Spurs have signed plenty of Juventus players in the past
Postecoglou’s side have been linked with numerous central defenders already this window, which suggests Tottenham are still looking to sign another centre-back, despite the January arrival of Romanian international, Radu Dragusin.
One name that has been linked is Calafiori, who has impressed in the recent EURO’s games for Italy. Tuttosport in Italy has claimed that Spurs are ‘ready to break in’ to try and sign Calafiori, who is also attracting interest from fierce rivals Arsenal.
Max Kilman is another name who has been linked to Spurs for some while, with GiveMeSport most recently claiming that the defender, who is also being tracked by Newcastle, West Ham and Manchester United, has ‘worked his way onto Postecoglou’s radar’.
However, recent reports emerging from Italy suggest that there is a different deal that the club are starting to get the ball rolling on.
Juventus set their asking price for Tottenham target, Gatti
Italian journalist, Gianni Balzarini has revealed on his YouTube channel that 26-year-old, Federico Giatti, is of interest to Spurs with the club having already completed a ‘survey’ on the player who held down a consistent spot at Juventus this season.
The Old Lady has reportedly set out their stool for Giatti too, with Balzarini claiming they value their defender at ‘between 25 and 30 million’. The number is certainly less than the reported £45 million which Wolves are holding out for Max Kilman.
A deal appears a possibility reportedly if Tottenham ‘accept the conditions’ in which the Italian giants have set. Spurs’ moves are also likely to have subsequent effects with Balzarini’s report claiming Gatti’s fee would see Juventus ‘invest the amount collected’ into signing Bologna’s Riccardo Calafiori.
Spurs Web Opinion
Gatti is an interesting option if Spurs are looking into him. He’s a different age profile to Tottenham’s recent recruitment strategy, Johnson, 22, Van De Ven, 22, and Dragusin, 21, all when purchased.
However, Gatti has only been playing at the top level for two seasons, in that sense he is still young and perhaps has more years of top-level football in his legs than most 26-year-olds.
The Italian’s stats are also very impressive, being an incredibly progressive centre-back (1.77 progressive carries per 90 and 4.16 progressive passes per 90, which puts him in the 2 and 27 % of centre-backs in each category). (FBRef)
With Tottenham’s recent links to Juventus too and Calafiori’s price only being heightened by his impressive EUROs, Gatti is a signing I can perceive, and also one that appears to tactically make sense.
