PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Oregon State Police have released vehicle and body-camera footage of the events leading up to a fatal officer-involved shooting after a traffic stop in Eugene that occurred on June 11.

The video shows the trooper pulling over a driver at River Avenue and Beltline Highway just before 4:30 p.m. The driver then gets out of the car and runs to the passenger side of the vehicle. The trooper then uses a Taser.

The driver managed to get a gun and point it at the trooper, prompting the trooper to take out his firearm, OSP said.

Despite warning from the trooper, the driver grabbed the gun and pointed it at the trooper before being shot, authorities said.

According to a release from OSP, the driver got immediate medical attention and Eugene-Springfield firefighters arrived to help. But the driver died at the scene.

The trooper, now on administrative leave, was not hurt, authorities said.

After an investigation by the Lane County Sheriff's Office, the District Attorney concluded the use of force in this case was justified.

No further information -- including the identity of the driver -- has been released at this time.
