Darlene 3 Fire 50% contained, recreation sites to reopen

Crews increased the containment of the Darlene 3 Fire overnight, with growth slowing Saturday.

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Crews increased the containment of the Darlene 3 Fire overnight, with growth slowing Saturday.

As of Saturday, the Darlene 3 Fire is still listed at 3,889 acres, which is roughly 6 square miles. However, the fire’s containment went up to 50% according to Central Oregon Fire Info. Officials said it was thanks to “low winds during the day and high humidity at night” that progress was made with containment.

They add firefighters will continue to focus on full containment with support from drones checking for hot spots.

Officials say recreation sites such as Prairie Campground and the Rosland OHV area and adjacent trails remain closed. However, McKay Crossing Campground, Ogden Group Campground and 6 Mile Sno Park will reopen at noon on Sunday. Check the U.S. Forest Service’s website for more details.

Meanwhile, the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office reduced the evacuation level for Newbery Estates down to Level 2 “BE SET” on Friday. The area west of Hwy 97 and north of Burgess Road was also reduced such that there is no evacuation status.
