Man Utd now want to sign £30m star who created 21 big chances for UCL club - report
Manchester United have joined the race to sign Girona left-back Miguel Gutierrez this summer.
The Red Devils currently have Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia as their specialist left-backs, but both have been injury prone.
Shaw made only 15 appearances last season after multiple setbacks while Malacia did not play a game after a knee surgery.
The club have made the decision to sign a new left-back and journalist Javier Rodriguez Pascual claims that they have joined the pursuit of Gutierrez.
Bologna are also admirers of the Spaniard, who has a £30 million release clause in his deal.
However, Real Madrid have an advantage over interested clubs. They have the option to buy him back for just £7m during the current transfer window.
The 22-year-old is still waiting for the decision from the European champions.
Gutierrez would be a quality competitor to Shaw
Gutierrez had an impressive 2023/24 campaign with Girona, who performed above expectations. They finished third in La Liga and also qualified for the Champions League.
The left-back made his mark with two goals and nine assists from 40 appearances. Gutierrez created a stunning 21 big chances in the league – the joint-highest alongside Iago Aspas.
He also averaged close to six recoveries per appearance. Gutierrez is clearly an attacking full-back and he would perfectly suit manager Erik ten Hag. He could rotate him with Shaw.
Shaw has been a key player for United over the past decade, but Ten Hag recently mentioned that the Englishman can no longer play 60 games per season after his horrific injury.
Madrid currently have the advantage with the buy-back clause for Gutierrez. United should still be optimistic of signing the left-back as Madrid could sell him for a quick profit.
