Ahead of the game against the Houston Astros, Mets fans cheer on their team

FLUSHING, Queens (PIX11) — The Mets winning streak came to an end Saturday after facing a tough loss against the Houston Astros.

PIX11 News caught up with energized fans at a block party, before the game, who were hopeful for another win. Dozens of fans gathered to celebrate the New York Mets' recent success, turning the outside of Citi Field stadium into a hub of excitement and community spirit.

"Love it,” said Mets fan Diane. “Great drinks. Free drinks. Loving it."

The Mets have been on an impressive run. They started with a 7-game winning streak, briefly lost two out of three games, and then started another four-game winning streak, taking the baseball world by storm before Saturday’s loss. Longtime fans said they have been shocked about how the season is shaping up.

"Beginning of the season it's a typical Mets season,” said Mets fan Lester. “You experience the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. Right now, we're up high, so we're riding well." 

At the block party fans indulged in games, music and a number of live dance performances drawing fans of all ages.

With Mets Infielder Jose Iglesias making waves not only on the field but also in the music world after his performance of his new song "OMG" at Friday night's game, fans are raving about the song which has soared to number one on Latin iTunes.

"We love it,” Diane said. “We've already downloaded it and everything."

With the Mets igniting hope for fans and the excitement around Citi Field grows, fans say they will continue rallying behind their favorite baseball team -- united in their passion and hope for a successful season.

Mets players will have another chance to regain their winning momentum at Citi Field on Sunday.
