A WOMAN has revealed she was left stunned when she was asked for ID while buying a garden broom in B&M.

Ellie explained that she wanted to purchase the weed scraper, but the staff in the high street store wouldn’t sell it to her because she couldn’t prove she was over 16.

Sharing a video on TikTok of herself enjoying an iced coffee, Ellie wrote over the top: “B&M have just refused to sell me a weed scraping broom because I didn’t have ID to prove that I’m over 16.

“What about these voluptuous breasts and sick tatts suggests that I am a child?

“What about this perfect girl next door face suggests that I’m going to shank someone with a weed scraper?

“I’m so taken aback I’ve had to come and get a Greggs to think the situation over!”

She added in the caption: “I’m nearly 26 by the way.

“They also refused me the caulk scraper so any advice on what household items I can use instead would be greatly appreciated!”

Ellie also put hashtags including #babyface on her video caption.

People in the comments section quickly weighed in, with many recalling their own tales of being IDs for bizarre purchases.

“Girl I once got ID’d trying to buy a DVD in Sainsbury’s,” one wrote.

“It was rated 15. I’m in my thirties!”

“I needed ID to buy a £2 cutlery set,” another said.

“I didn’t have ID and had to put it back, I was so embarrassed!”

“Was ID’d once when buying teaspoons in Tesco’s. Make it make sense,” a third sighed.

“Tesco wouldn’t let me buy plastic cutlery but the toilet bleach I was buying was totally fine…” someone else laughed.

“They IDed me for a BBQ cleaning brush. I’m 25…” another said.

But others defended the B&M staff, insisting the ‘Challenge 25’ policy is active in most shops.

“It’s not the worker’s fault it’s just company policy unfortunately,” one wrote.

“Just carry ID?” another suggested.

“Like, I always have my driving license on me. Challenge 25 is a policy they have to follow and they get test purchases.”

“We have this policy where if you look under the age of 25 we HAVE to ask for ID,” a third said.

“If not we can get fined and/or fired.”

“We get told what needs ID we don’t make the rules just gotta follow them,” someone else insisted.

“Most places do this,” another commented.

“I don’t know why people are surprised about it when it is literally everywhere.

“Like yeah, I wouldn’t expect it for a broom but it isn’t hard to just keep ID on you because you never know.”
