Third Doha meeting hosted by UN set to begin today

The first day of the Doha meeting on Afghanistan is scheduled to begin today, Sunday, June 30th, at 6:00 PM local time at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel. According to information Khaama Press received from sources, this meeting will be held under stringent security measures.

Prior to the start of the meeting, special representatives of countries and organizations are engaged in personal meetings and discussions at the venue.

It has been reported that Rosemary DiCarlo, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs and the host of this meeting, will speak at the beginning of the meeting.

Following her, Qatar’s representative as the host country will address the gathering, and then Zabihullah Mujahid, the head of the Taliban’s negotiating team, will deliver a speech. The agenda allows each special representative to speak on their topic for up to three minutes thereafter.

Zakir Jalali, the Head of the Third Political Directorate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Taliban, said in a tweet that on the second day of the Doha meeting, discussions will focus on financial and banking sanctions, the private sector, combating narcotics, and maintaining progress.

This comes amid widespread criticism as human rights advocates and women’s representatives were not invited to the meeting. Critics argue that the exclusion of women’s representatives could have significant consequences.

The situation in Afghanistan remains dire amid ongoing human rights violations and escalating violence. Reports of targeted killings, restrictions on women’s rights, and suppression of media freedom continue to surface, drawing international concern and calls for urgent action.

Humanitarian conditions in Afghanistan are worsening, with millions facing food insecurity and inadequate access to healthcare. The conflict has displaced thousands internally and created a refugee crisis in neighboring countries, exacerbating an already precarious situation.

He stated that the third Doha meeting will be held for two days, and the meetings and discussions on the third day will not be related to this session.
