Fans hail England for instant ‘shot on target’ against Slovakia in Euro 2024 last-16 clash – but it’s not as it seems

ENGLAND were trolled on social media less than a minute after their Last-16 encounter against Slovakia at Euro 2024 for their first “shot on target”.

The Slovaks kicked things off at the Auf Schalke Arena in Gelsenkirchen for the crucial knockout clash.

And Copenhagen star Denis Vavro immediately tried to clear the ball with a powerful kick about five seconds after kick-off.

However, Vavro’s effort took a deflection off England captain Harry Kane’s back and the ball made its way back to Newcastle’s Martin Dubravka.

Fans swarmed social media jokingly congratulating the Three Lions, who failed to convince during the group stage with their lack of attacking edge, for registering a shot on target so early in the match.

One fan tweeted: “Kane shot on target already.”

Another commented: “Harry Kane forces a saves with a 40 yard shot off his back after just 5 seconds.”

A third gasped: “Kane shot on target already?”

This fan tagged Opta with the following post: “Kane shot on target in 3 seconds HELLO @OptaJoe.”

And that one wrote: “Does that count as a shot on target from Kane??”

The game didn’t start in the best way possible for England as Gareth Southgate‘s men picked up three yellow card within just 14 minutes.

Marc Guehi was first cautioned after just three minutes before Kobbie Mainoo and Jude Bellingham followed him into the book.

It all got even worse for England when Slovakia opened the scoring with Ivan Schranz after 25 minutes.

If the Three Lions emerge victorious they will face Switzerland in the quarter-finals.
