The European Union announced sending 98 tons of humanitarian aid, including medical supplies, to Afghanistan.

Katarina Kertysova, the EU spokesperson in Afghanistan, stated on Sunday, June 30th, that this aid is earmarked for children suffering from malnutrition and flood victims.

Raffaella Iodice, EU representative in Afghanistan, posted on social media platform X: “Today, 98 tons of vital medical equipment entered Afghanistan through EU’s humanitarian air bridge.”

Janz Lenarchich, a member of the EU Crisis Management Commission, mentioned ongoing recovery efforts in central and northern Afghanistan following recent floods.

According to information from Mr. Lenarchich, the EU has dispatched 1,570 tons of humanitarian aid to Afghanistan via 36 flights since 2021.

The European Union pledged €146 million in April to combat humanitarian crises in Afghanistan and support Afghan refugees in Iran and Pakistan.

Amidst the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan, medical care and equipment shortages have exacerbated the challenges faced by healthcare facilities.

Reports indicate that hospitals and clinics struggle with inadequate medical supplies, equipment, and staffing, severely impacting their ability to provide essential healthcare services to the population.

The dire situation has led to increased mortality rates among vulnerable groups, including children, pregnant women, and the elderly, highlighting the urgent need for sustained international aid and support.
