“India Dominates ICC Team of the Tournament with Six Picks; Kohli Snubbed”

Six Indians were selected by the International Cricket Council for their “Team of the Tournament” for the recently concluded Twenty20 World Cup; however, star batsman Virat Kohli, who scored the game-winning run in the final against South Africa, was left off the list.

Kohli had a lackluster World Cup in his new role as the opener, but he rose to the occasion in the big final, winning man-of-the-match with a 59-ball 76.

In a thrilling comeback in the final overs, India defeated South Africa by seven runs to win their second T20 World Cup in seventeen years.

Rohit Sharma, the captain of India, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, and two pacers, Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh, were all included in the ICC XI.

With 257 runs at an incredible strike-rate of 156.7, Rohit took the lead early on. He trailed behind Rahmanullah Gurbaz of Afghanistan in terms of most runs scored.


Bumrah, the player of the tournament and India’s winning combination in their victory, came back with 15 wickets.

But more than his number of wickets, Bumrah was India’s most valuable player the entire tournament because of his ability to limit opponents’ scoring rates.


At the men’s T20 World Cup, his economy rate of 4.17 was the highest of any bowler in a single tournament.

Afghanistan included three players in the ICC team after their historic semi-final exit, including left-arm fast Fazalhaq Farooqi, who shared the best wicket-taking record with Arshdeep with 17 wickets apiece.

Alongside captain Rashid Khan was wicketkeeper-batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who led the Afghanistan runs scorers’ list with 281 runs in his opening innings.

Afghanistan’s historic run was masterfully led by the cunning leg-spinner, who finished with 14 wickets at a tidy economy of 6.17.

The final XI consisted of West Indies co-host Nicholas Pooran and Australia’s Marcus Stoinis.

Second place winners Anrich Nortje, a pacer, was designated the 12th man since South Africa could not locate a player in the starting XI.

With the exception of one game, Nortje claimed at least one wicket during the tournament, starting off with a fantastic 4/7 against Sri Lanka.

He was the most effective bowler for South Africa in the final, accumulating statistics of 2/26 in his four overs.
