Rohit Sharma FORCED to Quit T20Is? Speculations Rife on Gautam Gambhir’s Role After India Win WC

Barbados: So, was India captain Rohit Sharma forced to quit T20Is? Captain Rohit announced his retirement from the shortest format after India won the T20 WC 2024. Following the win, Rohit said that he is extremely happy that the side won and also claimed that he did not think he would retire. He asserted that the situation is such that he had to.

“I didn’t think that I would retire from T20Is, but the situation was such… I thought it was the perfect situation for me. Nothing better than winning the cup and saying goodbye,” Indian skipper said.

Not long back, a report on Navbharat Times had claimed that to-be-coach Gautam Gambhir had laid down his requirements. He had demanded that he has the right to drop seniors like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Mohammed Shami and Ravindra Jadeja from the team if they did not perform in the 2025 Champions Trophy.

Meanwhile, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has taken Hardik Pandya’s name when posed this question.

“Captaincy will be decided by the selectors and we will announce it after discussing with them. You asked about Hardik, there were lot of questions over his form but we and selectors showed faith in him and he proved himself,” Shah said on Monday as quoted by Hindustan Times.

With the T20 WC out of the way, the next big ICC event will be the Champions Trophy. So will Rohit and Kohli be a part of that event? A confident Jay Shah assured that the two seniors would be there.

“The way this team is progressing, our target is to win World Test Championship final and Champions Trophy. There will be a similar squad playing there. The seniors will be there,” Shah assured.
