According to Fabrizio Romano, talks are progressing between Leeds United and Spurs, and the Lilywhites hope to book a medical for Archie Gray soon.
A whirlwind 24 hours in Archie Gray saga
Although Tottenham’s interest in Archie Gray had been well documented, it seemed as though Brentford had won the race for his signature when they agreed a medical and personal terms this week (The Athletic).
However, it turned out that while an agreement had been reached on the player side, Leeds United had rejected the payment structure of Brentford’s £35m bid (The Athletic).
Spurs subsequently leapt to action and started talks of their own, with Gray reportedly set to have his second medical in London in the space of just 24 hours (Football Insider).
Talks are progressing for Archie Gray to Spurs
A flurry of reports from reliable journalists emerged yesterday morning, confirming that Spurs had opened talks with Leeds and were confident about the prospect of reaching an agreement (David Ornstein, Fabrizio Romano and Alasdair Gold).
The Mirror then added that Ange Postecoglou was expected to hold talks of his own with the Leeds starlet while Spurs continued to work on an agreement at club level.
Now Romano has offered a new update on proceedings, stating that talks are progressing between Leeds and Spurs, with the latter hoping to reach an agreement and book a medical ‘soon’.
He tweeted: ‘Understand Tottenham are advancing on Archie Gray deal, negotiations progressing. Spurs are optimistic on personal terms after positive talks with player’s camp, player open to the move.
‘Tottenham hope to reach total agreement and book medical soon.’

Spurs are looking for young players who fit Postecoglou’s structure and can grow under the manager over the long-term. That is Archie Gray down to a T.
I can see him playing in midfield and covering at right-back this season, as the inverted nature of the role in Ange’s system suits his style perfectly. Let’s just hope Spurs can get a deal done!
